Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (Retired) Scott J. Eggert was born in Bad Axe, Michigan, and is a 2004 graduate of Bad Axe High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 21, 2004, launching a distinguished 20-year career in operational medicine, leadership, and service to others.


Following completion of Hospital Corpsman “A” School and Field Medical Service School in 2005, Senior Chief Eggert began his military service with 3D Medical Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. He deployed for humanitarian assistance operations in Pakistan and later to Australia in support of joint military exercises, earning his Fleet Marine Force Warfare qualification early in his career.


He next reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, deploying to both Kuwait and Afghanistan. His performance in austere environments led to his advancement and earning of the Seabee Combat Warfare qualification. He supported major operational efforts, including base expansion projects and combat support during The Battle of Marjah.


In 2010, Senior Chief Eggert was selected for and attended the prestigious Independent Duty Corpsman School in San Diego, California. He was meritoriously advanced to HM1 at graduation and assigned to Patrol Coastal Crew MIKE in Little Creek, Virginia. There, he deployed twice to Bahrain and earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare qualification. In 2013, he was selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer while serving aboard USS Typhoon (PC 5).


In 2014, Senior Chief Eggert transitioned to shore duty as the Program Supervisor for the Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman Course at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, Connecticut. During this tour, he earned a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Clinical Health Sciences from The George Washington University and graduated from the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 205, Gray Group).


In 2018, he completed the Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman conversion course and was selected for advancement to Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. He then served aboard USS South Dakota (SSN 790) as the sole medical department representative until 2022. His final tour of duty was as the Senior Enlisted Leader at Navy Medicine Readiness & Training Unit Groton, Connecticut.


Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman Eggert retired from the United States Navy on May 31, 2025, after 20 years of honorable and faithful service.


Following retirement, he began a new chapter in corporate leadership as a Senior Business Process Analyst at Optum, where he serves as the Mobile Device Migration and Integration Lead, supporting healthcare providers in the field through advanced technological solutions and clinical enablement.


Senior Chief Eggert (Ret.) resides in Norwich, Connecticut, with his wife Jessica and their four children. He continues his commitment to public service as the Chief of the Occum Fire Department and as a certified Emergency Medical Services Instructor for the State of Connecticut since 2020. He also teaches per diem for the Hartford Healthcare Emergency Services Network at Hartford Hospital, delivering the EMT Initial Certification Course to the next generation of emergency responders.
