Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (Retired) Scott J. Eggert was born in Bad Axe, Michigan, and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 2004. He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 21, 2004, beginning a 20 year career focused on operational medicine, leadership, training, and mission readiness.
After completing Hospital Corpsman “A” School and Field Medical Service School in 2005, Scott served with 3D Medical Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. During this assignment, he supported humanitarian missions in Pakistan and joint military operations in Australia, earning his Fleet Marine Force Warfare qualification early in his career.
He later served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, deploying to Kuwait and Afghanistan in support of combat and contingency operations, including The Battle of Marjah. His experience in austere and high risk environments led to expanded leadership responsibilities and the earning of his Seabee Combat Warfare qualification.
In 2010, Scott attended Independent Duty Corpsman School in San Diego, graduating in 2011 with a meritorious advancement to HM1. He deployed twice to Bahrain with Patrol Coastal Crew MIKE and later served aboard USS Typhoon (PC 5), earning his Enlisted Surface Warfare qualification and selection to Chief Petty Officer.
In 2014, he transitioned to instructor and program leadership duties at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, Connecticut, serving as Program Supervisor for the Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman Course. During this tour, he earned a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Clinical Health Sciences from The George Washington University and graduated from the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy.
In 2018, he completed the Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman conversion course and was advanced to Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. He served as the sole medical provider aboard USS South Dakota (SSN 790) until 2022 and completed his final naval assignment as Senior Enlisted Leader at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit Groton.
Scott retired from the United States Navy on May 31, 2025, after 20 years of honorable service.
Following retirement, he transitioned into healthcare technology and operations as a Senior Business Analyst at Optum, where he serves as the Mobile Device Migration and Integration Lead. In this role, he supports frontline healthcare providers by improving technology workflows, streamlining clinical operations, and strengthening end user enablement across care environments.
Alongside his corporate work, Scott continues his commitment to emergency services and education. He earned his Connecticut EMS Instructor certification in April 2020, began his teaching career with American Professional Educational Services in Norwich, and now teaches EMT Initial Certification programs through Hartford Hospital’s Emergency Services Network, preparing the next generation of EMS professionals.
He also serves as Fire Chief of the Occum Fire Department in Norwich, Connecticut, maintaining active leadership in fire and EMS operations while expanding training, preparedness, and operational readiness through Box 1572 Solutions.
Scott lives in Norwich, Connecticut, with his wife Jessica and their four children.
